Sustain OC presents Sustainability Leaders of the Future Challenge

The mission of the Sustain OC Foundation is to empower the Orange County youth to analyze and address community issues through the lens of sustainability using teamwork, technology, and partnership based approaches.

The “Sustainability Leaders of the Future” program is for Orange County High School Juniors via the OC School Districts.

OC school districts will be given the option to either assign a school within the district or select a team of high school juniors from within the district. The student teams are tasked with creating a solution for a current sustainability concern in Orange County.

At the beginning of the school year, school districts and, later, teams will be presented with an existing local environmental issue/problem with which they are tasked to define a solution. Their resources, beyond the usual research tools, will be the members and partners of Sustain SoCal within which they will have access to cleantech companies, corporations of all industries, local government, colleges, investors and other nonprofits.

After a review of the applications in February, three finalists will be chosen to further develop their projects. And, in May, these finalists will present to the Sustain SoCal Board of Directors when a winner will be announced. The awards are to be determined, but under discussion are scholarships, internships and plaques.
